# General Screening Protocols

## Guidelines to Follow During the Screening Process

**Child Interaction:**

1. Greet the child warmly by name
2. Explain you'll be doing simple eye activities together
3. Reassure that activities won't hurt and take 10-15 minutes
4. Be positive and encouraging regardless of performance
5. Ensure proper seating: feet on floor, back against chair, sitting straight

**Important Guidelines:**

- Children should wear glasses if they normally do
- Postpone screening if child is ill or very upset
- Score and comment AFTER each subtest completion
- Never score during the activity itself

**Behavioral Observations:** Watch for and document:

- Watering eyes, eye rubbing, posture changes
- Head shaking to refocus, frequent eye closing
- Excessive blinking, complaints of headache/motion sickness
